PROVIDERS
Thank you to everyone who participated in our first ever Virtual Day at the Capitol on May 5, 2020!
PACT is committed to the health and well-being of our advocates. In response to CDC recommendations regarding COVID-19, PACT transitioned to our first ever remote Day at the Capitol. Through this is one-day event, individuals still had the opportunity to come together virtually to provide education to legislators on important tobacco control issues throughout the Commonwealth. The primary advocacy topic of focus was on the importance of sustaining tobacco prevention and control funding to support necessary tobacco cessation and prevention programs and services – especially during this critical time for lung health. About 400 advocates participated in our first virtual event on May 5, 2020! Thanks to all of our amazing TRU youth and adult lung health advocates for playing a part in making it such a special event.
PACT advocates had the opportunity to engage through social media as well as through the Cluster app. Take a look at PACT’s Facebook page @PAtobaccocontrol to view photos and highlights from the event.
Advocates also participated in the following activities:
- Legislative Visits – Students and tobacco control advocates had the chance to speak with state legislators over the phone to discuss the importance of their work and/or passion for tobacco prevention and control to help showcase the increasing importance of funding for our programs.
- Virtual Town Hall – Day at the Capitol participants and the general public were able to listen to a panel of lung health experts during the Virtual Town Hall. Topics included: the connection between COVID-19 and tobacco use, the e-cigarette epidemic and the Lung Association’s current available programs, the history and importance of tobacco prevention and control funding, the experience and thoughts of current TRU youth and students in PA.
