PACT’s annual Day at the Capitol takes place on May 5, 2026, bringing advocates from across Pennsylvania to the State Capitol to engage directly with lawmakers on policies that impact lung health and tobacco prevention. This annual event provides a powerful opportunity to elevate public health priorities and ensure decision-makers hear from those working on the front lines of tobacco control. Advocates will meet with legislators to discuss the ongoing need for strong, evidence-based tobacco control policies that reduce nicotine addiction and protect communities. Participants will also come together for a press conference featuring legislators and community advocates, highlighting the collective impact of advocacy and the importance of continued action to protect and promote lung health across the Commonwealth.

This year, our primary advocacy focuses include:

• Comprehensive Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA) Policies: Adult advocates will emphasize the importance of closing loopholes to ensure all Pennsylvanians are protected from secondhand smoke exposure.
• Tobacco Tax Increase: Advocates will focus on the need to increase the tobacco tax as a means of reducing the smoking rate in Pennsylvania. A tobacco tax increase must include ALL tobacco products and they should be taxed comparably. Advocates will also talk about the need of a new dedicated funding source for tobacco prevention and control programs at the PA Department of Health.

Following morning legislative visits, all participants and the general public are invited to join us for a press conference. Attendees will hear from lung health experts, TRU Ambassadors, and other special guests about the critical importance of advancing tobacco prevention and control initiatives in Pennsylvania.
